Programs
Schiller's Swimmers offers:
Private swim lessons: 30 minute or 1 hour
Small group swim lessons: 30 minute or 1 hour
Group 1: Parent/Child Lessons (3-4 years old)
Our Parent/Child lessons are recommended for children three or four years old, accompanied in the water by their parent. I will work with the parents to teach the child water comfort and very elementary swim behaviors: blowing bubbles, floating, kicking. The main emphasis is on engaging the child in the idea that water is an enjoyable, instead of a fearful, environment.
Group 2: The Junior Swimmer (4-6 years old)
Our Junior Swimmer group is designed for children who are new to swim lessons. Goals for The Junior Swimmer include:
Group 3: The Novice Swimmer (6-8 years old)
The Novice Swimmer group is for children who are comfortable with swimming at least half the length of the pool with little assistance and are ready to work their way up to swimming proper stroke from one side of the pool to the next. Goals for The Novice Swimmer include:
Group 4: The Intermediate Swimmer (8 to 10 years old)
The Intermediate Swimmer group is for children who can comfortably swim one length of our pool in freestyle and elementary backstroke, but who want to improve technique and learn other strokes. Goals for The Intermediate Swimmer include:
Group 5: The Advanced Swimmer (10 to 14 years old)
The advanced swimmer group is for children who can comfortably swim laps in the four most common swim strokes but would like more technique (racing starts, flip turns, etc.) and endurance. Goals for The Advanced Swimmer include:
Group 6: The Olympian (14 to 17 years old)
The Olympian group is for the swimmer to be able to complete competive 200-yard eventing (racing start, racing turns, 8 lengths of our pool, timed.) in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and medley.

- Water comfort and relaxation
- Submersion of face
- Beginning front float and back float with assistance
- Beginning kicks and big arm strokes - with assistance
- Forward motion on the surface for a distance of 5 feet - with assistance
- Independent float on front and on back
- Kick 20 feet with kickboard on front and back
- Can move comfortably in deep water (jump in, turn and swim to wall, climb out) without assistance
Group 3: The Novice Swimmer (6-8 years old)
The Novice Swimmer group is for children who are comfortable with swimming at least half the length of the pool with little assistance and are ready to work their way up to swimming proper stroke from one side of the pool to the next. Goals for The Novice Swimmer include:
- Kick 20 feet with kickboard on front and back unassisted
- Swim freestyle, backstroke, or breaststroke, 15 feet with a roll-over breath unassisted
- Swim elementary backstroke 15 feet unassisted
- Tread water
- Diving into the water
- Attempts to do flip turns
Group 4: The Intermediate Swimmer (8 to 10 years old)
The Intermediate Swimmer group is for children who can comfortably swim one length of our pool in freestyle and elementary backstroke, but who want to improve technique and learn other strokes. Goals for The Intermediate Swimmer include:
- 50 or 100 yard freestyle in good form - stroke technique / rotating breathing / kick / glide
- 50 or 100 yard backstroke in good form - stroke / kick
- 50 yard breaststroke
- 25 or 50 yard butterfly
- Diving into the water from a starting block
- Proper flip turns
Group 5: The Advanced Swimmer (10 to 14 years old)
The advanced swimmer group is for children who can comfortably swim laps in the four most common swim strokes but would like more technique (racing starts, flip turns, etc.) and endurance. Goals for The Advanced Swimmer include:
- Freestyle in excellent form 200 yards
- Backstroke in excellent form 200 yards
- Breaststroke in excellent form 150 yards
- Butteryfly in excellent form 100 yards
- Competent racing turn
- Competent racing start
Group 6: The Olympian (14 to 17 years old)
The Olympian group is for the swimmer to be able to complete competive 200-yard eventing (racing start, racing turns, 8 lengths of our pool, timed.) in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and medley.
